Garden Studio New build studio, landscape design, South London 2015
Reconfiguration of a narrow back garden to create a small two person studio space and a new courtyard garden. Accommodation is set into the ground, taking advantage of the existing fall to the site, in order to minimise the impact on neighbouring gardens. The building is conceived as a sinuous screen that wraps around the south west corner of the plot enclosing the external courtyard and forming a direct relationship with the house. The courtyard itself is arranged around an existing Japanese Maple with a planter running along the western boundary and a channel of water, reflecting a saw tooth wall along the eastern boundary. A new hearth and chimney set halfway along the eastern boundary, frames the courtyard and reinforces the sense of enclosure.
